Some hardy souls went shopping after the workshop and have already started the program. Bravo!

In the first few days, it is normal to be hungry at times. Psych yourself up and be ready. Anticipate the hunger and resolve not to give in to it. Your body is protesting; it likes the old ways. It likes its every whim being catered to. But now you are the boss. You will decide when and what to eat. 

The hunger also means that you are already dipping into the glycogen tank. The fat tank will be next. That is good!

Your hunger will become less and less with every passing day. Hang tight, and you will look back at these first few days with a great sense of accomplishment.

  1. Today (May 2, 2012) is my starting day of the program. So far everything is fine. I have bought all of my food from the list and have prepared all my food through lunch today.

    It's almost relaxing to know that I don't have to guess what I am eating for lunch or dinner today, thus creating control for myself and making better decisions by planning out my meals. Otherwise, I know I would not be eating something healthy.

    I am looking forward to building a menu and shopping list for 30-45 days of meals to rotate through the months to prevent monotony and boredom.

    Ooops, I just felt the ghrelin kick in, it must be time for my mid morning snack. It's amazing how quickly you get hungry when you are NOT eating high fat and sugar laden foods.

  2. Yes, Roger, I agree. It is "freeing'' to have the meals planned out and prepared in advance. Have to admit I was up until 10:30 last night getting everything ready for today, so like Dr. Kalia said, it is time intensive. But I think that will get easier as I get into a routine. Mary Ann

  3. I ran across this link yesterday when looking at some information about FODMAPs (a diet gaining in popularity in Australia and England for people with IBS.) and wanted to share.

    For example, if you type in "honeydew fructose" in the search box, the search engine returns the amount of both fructose and glucose in a serving of melon.

      Be careful, though - I asked it for calories in 1 slice of bread and it gave me the calories in 59 grams of bread. Not quite the same thing...

    1. For the first two weeks, only what is on the menu and in the recipes is allowed. After that, look at the "food list after the first two week" on page 52. You will see that root vegetables, other than potatoes, are allowed in moderation and in salads.

  7. Just touching base - the healthy eating choices with this program is working for me. Of course, these are foods i love anyway, just cutting out the "junk" is beneficial. Sticking to the program, feeling "full" and haven't yearned for anything sugary. I continue to stay in a positive light, and by the way, Day 3: Loss of 5 lbs. There is so much gratitude i have for this program, and also for myself for doing it! Thank you.

  8. Today I had lunch at Oasis on 25th and Market and I had their Friday special - wild salmon sandwich - however I ordered it without the bread and they served it on a bed of lettuce. Very good. They also served lentil chips with it, which I think are okay to eat? (I know they're made with lentils - not sure of the other ingrediants). Anyway, this place serves mostly vegetarian and has good options for us, I think.
